At Round 5 of the Trent Valley Kart Club championship, everything that *could* go wrong *did* go wrong for Theo. Our worst weekend, results wise, in a long time and one to definitely put behind us.
In Saturday practice we didn’t quite have the dry weather pace that we normally have, but when it started raining Theo was fastest in his group. However, in the last session one of his wheels came off!! Probably the mechanic’s fault there (SORRY!).
On Sunday, Theo was looking like he would take Pole Position in his group when suddenly the engine started cutting out He just managed to get the kart back into the pits, and still managed to qualify 4th. He started Heat 1 in 7th, and got up to 3rd but was caught up in a battle and ended up finishing 5th. In his 2nd heat, he started 7th again, but a rear hub failed losing him a rear wheel and sending him into multiple spins! Luckily, he was OK, but got a DNF.
He had done enough to start the A Final in 22nd, and got off to a good start going up to 17th by lap 2, but he got punted off down to 22nd, and then got punted off again, going into the wall and dropping down to last (34th). Despite the kart being damaged, Theo being a bit hurt, and now being more than 20s behind the leader, he got his head down and fought his way through the field to finish 25th.
Definitely one of those weekends when nothing goes right. That’s motorsport! Upwards and onwards…
